Attack of the Clones > Avatar.

No joke. The stories, pacing, and performances were of the same expired-yogurt quality and they were both stuffed to the gills with equivalent amounts of “wow golly gee willikers” CGI nonsense.

But Episode II had Yoda with a lightsaber. Respect, motherfuckers.

I appreciate this review. It tells me what I need to know.

Admittedly, the Yoda lightsaber thing was one of the highlights of my decade in moviegoing. Everybody in the audience started cheering when he was flipping around and kicking ass. It was like a great moment we had waited a long time to see.

Too bad about the rest of it, though. At first I resisted that seventy minute Phantom Menace review that’s going around right now, but I have to say after watching it that it’s certainly worth a look. The guy is funny (Ben Stein meets Dr Zoidberg) and it’s not just about slamming Lucas (although there’s plenty of that); there are a lot of good points being made here about storytelling in general. Here’s the first ten minutes, anyway; if you dig that, you’ll probably enjoy the rest of it as well..

Andrew W.K “Party Hard”
_____

#5 of the Top 5 Best Songs Of The Decade.

He’s still real to me, dammit

Like somebody else said in that thread, he’s the closest thing we have left to Mr Rogers, in terms of that disarmingly direct kind of realness and non-snarkiness. Plus, he’s produced a Lee Scratch Perry LP and had a hit Japanese album of Gundam songs and hosted a tv show for kids where they get to blow shit up. And that’s just recently!

(Besides, I genuinely like his tunes. “I Get Wet” is def one of the albums I would bring with me in a time machine to reassure my high school self that things were gonna be all right with music. It’s 80s hard rock meeting that Phil Spector “wall of sound” sensibility and never taking itself too seriously, very fun and life-affirming all at once.)

Michael Jackson Composed Music for Sonic

nevermindthebolex:

‘According to an interview in the French magazine Black & White—the “official magazine of Michael Jackson”—Jackson’s composer and musical director Brad Buxer says Michael was responsible for some of Sonic 3’s compositions. The themes that appear in Sonic 3 and some of Jackson’s own songs are not a coincidence.

As for Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog lead Yuji Naka’s caginess about confirming Jackson’s involvement? This may be your answer.

“And if he is not credited for composing the music, it’s because he was not happy with the result sound coming out of the console,” Buxer said. “At the time, game consoles did not allow an optimal sound reproduction, and Michael found it frustrating. He did not want to be associated with a product that devalued his music…”’

Now that you mention it, the music was infectiously catchy. I think I can still hum stuff from the Marble Zone.

Somebody made this video comparison.

He did have a working relationship with Sega for sure; there was that Moonwalker game, and of course Space Michael…
